Post P-90 in a Strat--life changing or meh?

I've got a basic SD vintage bridge soapbar on the way just because it was cheap. Best place I could use it right now is in a Fernandes Strat copy with a swimming-pool route. (Just need to cut the pickguard.)

Any feeling on P-90s in Strats? A bit too much of the fat bridge pickup thing? Any good (and hopefully cheap) weirdo pairings? I have half a notion to do it in the bridge with a Filtertron neck.

Or I could pass and get back on plan with the lipstick pickups and series/parallel switching scheme.

I say just load it up and see how you like it ? Pickups are funny like that. There's a video I was watching where a guy plays a Strat with 3 humbuckers in it and it still sounds just like a Strat to me, its sorta weird.

Tend to agree that the guitar's character will generally out. You can work with it but not against it.

I forgot! I have just the thing in the junk drawer. Lipstick humbucker of unknown origin with four conductor wiring. Weird slightly offset alignment to the two tubes that has kept me from installing it in a standard pickup ring. I'll put that neck, the P-90 in the bridge, and maybe some fun series/parallel/split switching for humbucker. Time to order a cheap blank guard to try to cut to fit.
