Yeah 3 in the first 6 months of 2014 , the world must be ending soon! Anyway it is a Vox SDC 22, doublecut with mini humbuckers. Lower end of the Vox lines , made in Indonesia with crappy pots, switch, jack and wiring.Wired series/parallel with a switch , not much different textures in it really , just sounds like a humbucker light more or less. Looks like it is going to need the entire upgrade package and taking the paint off the heel has become somewhat problematical. They put a block of wood onto the mahogany neck to make the heel and it is softer and seems to have more paint on it that refuses to come off. I even used paint remover.Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

I like the off brand guitars. I like double cuts also. That's a nice guitar, hard to see against the black background. The switches look oddly placed.

The placement just looks off but there is a lip that runs around the body , the tone knob sits in a small circular route. The 3 way switch just sits in the middle of both knobs and a little closer to the bottom side. The series/parallel switch is back out of the way to avoid accidental changes. Not really a bad setup but it is a little different. It sounds to me like there is a swimming pool route underneath the pickguard so I am probably going top put 3 Fralin mini humbuckers in it at 10k bridge 9k middle and 8k neck. Guitar is pretty comfortable to play and light so hopefully I can tune it up and make it nicer.

You always need at least one more guitar in your studio. I recently got an Epiphone Sorrento 1962 celebration. It must have been hiding in a warehouse since 2012 (the strings had black corrosion), it was new in the box with a very nice case. The guitar is like an ES 175 but came with 2 Gibson US made mini-buckers in Royal Olive sunburst which is actually very pretty to the eye in person. I put a set of GHS Burnished round wounds and touched up the intonation. The neck is very sweet, the guitar was almost perfectly set up out of the box. The mini-buckers sound fabulous, the guitar plays like a dream. This my second Epiphone this year as I bought one of the reissued Epi Genesis (it's like a double cutaway les paul) that I bought as a restock very cheap. The Genesis has Epiphone made Burstbuckers and has coil taps on the volume control. This guitar may have cured my Les Paul cravings it is a very sweet guitar straight out of the box.
I also bought an electric Mandola from Eastwood/Airline this year. Very cool little solid body instrument tuned like my tenor guitar and electric cello. Still getting the hang of that little tiny neck but it has a mini-bucker in the neck that sounds warm and sweet.

Very cool , we like new stuff! I need a studio for my guitars , can't record anything now 8 track has something wrong with it(besides being old and crappy). Mandola sounds like fun , been meaning to get some of those folksy offbeat items , ukulele , mandolin, tenor etc.

I dig all sorts of odd strings. I have quite a few short scale guitars (16"-22" scale) that really are nice to throw in a recording or play live for that matter. There are a lot of cool folk type instruments but ukulele maybe are no longer cool because everyone and their 8 year old kid play them. I have a banjo that I get out to clear my mind of guitar and banjo can also improve your picking skills especially if you do claw hammer style. Having a small instrument can be great for road trips they are much easier to play while driving than a dreadnought acoustic 🙂
