So we all know the vast market for special guitar parts with important properties to fix problems we knew about or didn't know about but now we obviously need to fix. Special wood, special alloys, cryogenic treatments, specially engineered components, NASA polymers, and so forth. So why don't we sort out any experiences that we've actually had right here.

I don't follow the trends, so I'm happy when without even trying I dodge scams like the ridiculous Gibson Bumblebee repro caps fraud, selling a $.50 cap for over $100: https://www.mylespaul.com/forums/historics-reissues/118027-historic-gibson-faux-bumblebee-caps.html

Has anything been worth the premium to you? Any real disappointments? Any budget/affordable upgrades that were life changing?

I swear by Graphtech saddles. They sound great and definitely reduced my string breakage. It's not a particularly expensive proposition, either. They're usually the only modded components on my guitars. I know, I'm a fuddy-duddy.

I was recently looking at this: https://www.zeroglide.com/details.asp I'll probably just build my own and try it on one of my guitars. It seems to make sense. Anyone else try one?

I have been putting the Graphtech Tusq XL nuts on my recent projects think they are good. I put a Babicz FCH bridge on my Les Paul and it made it much more resonant and Louder when played unplugged. https://www.fullcontacthardware.com/users/49443/photos/photo/49443_1113803.jpg Not to mention it allows better control over the radius of the bridge and intonation is set and forget.I also have been putting the Planetwaves Trim Lock Machines on some, 18:1 no extra wraps tunes easy and stays there. Nothing magic , just better parts to improve guitars more or less. It's that whole preference thing, you have to actually try new tech to see if it works. Anyone done the Evertune yet , potentially the best new idea for guitars this century.

I've heard good things about the babicz bridges as well. I've been wondering about the Evertune system. It kind of falls into the overkill category for me, but i'm still intrigued.

I have the Hipshot Tremsetter on my '86 Ibanez RG450 equipped with an Edge tremolo (their equivalent of a Floyd Rose). I've had it for about 10 years, and it works very well to create a better "Neutral" zone for the string tension.

I would recommend this, or one of the newer trem stabilizers that are easier to install. There is an excellent website dedicated to these: https://joe.emenaker.com/TremStabilizers/

Interestingly I had been thinking of the Graphtech saddles and the Hipshot Tremsetter when I thought up the thread.

The Graphtechs solved a string break problem on a Guild I have with an ABM fulcrum trem. I haven't had string break problems on any guitar since that one so haven't felt compelled to use them. I think the tone changed a bit, not better, but probably not worse.

The Tremsetter went on the same guitar and I didn't notice a difference, but I used 5 springs before and after I took it out so I wasn't going to notice it like a two-spring Floyd user would. I've noticed trem gargle on those guitars, but never on mine. Cannot remember why I got it in the first place other than being told there was a problem to solve.

I've made a few GraphTech nuts. I can't claim I hear a real big difference relative to bone, and since I don't use heavy trem, prefer big-ass strings, and usually play with my fingers, I like never break strings. (Like maybe, one every year or so.) So I can't really comment on the lubrication aspects of GraphTech. But they sound good, they're easy to work with, and they're less stinky then bone when abraded.

Gary Brawer, who I trust on pretty much everything, was over the moon about how great the Evertune works. I think he was in the process of installing them into a bunch of Joe Satriani's guitars. He'd said he'd have me over to try one the next time he did an install. I'm waiting, Gary! 😉

I don't think there is a noticeable sound difference with the nuts they just come already made in a bunch of shapes and sizes.Very little work left to fit to your guitar and very consistent material. Now I am waiting Gary gee whiz ?
