So I've acquired a maple P-Bass body, routed and all, complete with an all maple neck. It's got tuners and a bridge, but that's it. It's also got a terrible paint job. I'm going to bring this baby back to life, but I don't know anything about basses or bass hardware. So, suggestions? Pickups, bridges, tuning machines, strings, electronics, finishes, whatever. I'm essentially taking this thing down to bare bones and reworking all of it, so let me know what I should do with it. I'm open to any suggestions at all. I don't even know how I want it to sound. Any ideas?

The first question I would ask is where are you on the budget scale? Hipshot makes some of the best Bass hardware (tuning machines/bridges), but they are not cheap. You can get decent quality stuff from vendors such as Guitar Fetish for a lot less. Same thing goes for pickups - although I don't know squat about Bass pickups.

I'm willing to put as much as 750 in to this. Preferably 500.
