I was just looking at the Jerry Donahue tele: https://www.fret-king.com/jerry_donahue1.html

switch description: https://www.fret-king.com/jdselections.html

They use a 5 way switch with very usable settings. I think I'll try it one of my frankenbuilds. I'm not sure what cap they use on the alternate bridge setting, but I think that a bill lawrence q filter might be good there. Although it might make more sense to use a 4 way switch and put the q filter on its own knob connected to the bridge pickup so that it can be used in the neck+bridge positions. Has anyone done anything similar to this?

Well I modded a Peavey Reactor tele-clone some years ago with a 5-way super switch and a hot rails thing in the bridge position. The neck on that is not so great so it's spent a lot of time in the closet. One of the positions was everything in series although I can't attest to how wonderful that is.

As far as your JD pickups, I like the descriptions of the settings; trying to figure out what they mean.

1 is just plain old neck pickup.
2 slaps a fixed "woman-tone" cap on it
3 "customized parallel wiring" - hmmmm not sure what to make of that
4 both pickups with a cap and resistor? Not clear but intriguing
5 - regular old bridge, I mean, specially enhanced for your dining pleasure?

I was going to suggest some of my favorite old Yamaha AES-800 wirings, which I've written about at some length over in the "Pickups" area of the Forum.

1) Series humbucker with a cap to ground - pulls out mids depending on cap value and pickup inductance
2) Two single coils wired in parallel with the other coil as a shunt load to ground through a cap.

Looked a Bill Lawrence Q-filter - they claim it is an LCR, although they maddeningly only list the inductance? Gah!

Jerry had signature Fenders, both US and MIJ models, with a similar, if not identical switching scheme, shown here: https://www.tdpri.com/forum/just-pickups/179959-donahue-wiring.html
