Does anyone have any experience with those new ZT Lunchbox amps? http://www.ztamplifiers.com/products/lunchbox.html
On the surface they seem pretty stunning for such a tiny, featherweight package. I'd love to hear more about them, they seem like a workingman's friend.

I have one and like it a lot. It doesn't really sound fully like a tube amp but somehow still manages to cop a lot of old Fender vibe. For my needs, I might have hit the new Lunchbox Junior if it had been out as I don't need that much power most of the time. But the power seems to be a big appeal as a gig back-up amp. I've seen other rigs made up of several for portable stereo or multi-channel sounds. If the sound works for you, it's worth exploring.

(The Club is bigger, so less convenient on size, but besides the obvious features added, it has more low end extension, especially at high volume. If you need to bring lows, the Club is the choice. The Lunchbox is about guitar as a midrange instrument, which it usually is.)

I have one, which I wrote about a bit here.

It's a cool little thing, and probably would work fine for a certain sort of gig. It can drive big extension cabs, though I've noticed that doing so tends not to change the amp's idiosyncratic color much. I wouldn't even characterize it as "un-tube-like," so much as "just different."

It could be a good solution — but I'd make the effort to audition one in person before buying.

That's interesting about the extension cabinets, although I wouldn't expect to see myself using a ZT with one. If anything, I would use the Lunchbox for smallish single gigs (restaurants, wine tastings, etc.) where I do the "two or three parts at a time" thing, and want even, but pokey tones to carry all them into the room. And for the "I want to take the bus to the gig so I can have a few beers tonight" kinda' scenarios. 😉

Yeah, it's definitely an option for that sort of stuff. 🙂

FWIW, here's an interview with Ken Kantor of ZT that gives some insight into what they were going for: https://www.guitar-muse.com/interview-with-ken-kantor-at-zt-amps-5657

I think they really hit their goal of getting the amp to be musically responsive all through its range. It just might not be the musical response you like, but it works for me.

Well, it took me long enough, but I finally picked one of these guys up. I'd been using an ancient EHX Freedom Bros. cabinet (2x5" speakers, amp non-functioning) with a twenty watt micro amp built by a neighbour of mine, but the speakers were crackling and the amp's build quality frightened me. Also with a laptop power supply to power the amp, there was a significant amount of cable to haul around.
I've now shaved about ten pounds off my mobile rig, reduced set-up time and received a serious dose of clean headroom to boot. A good decision, methinks. I wrote a review of it you can read here: https://inspireformation.blogspot.ca/2014/02/portable-powerhouse-zt-lunchbox-amp.html

I got a ZT Extortion pedal when they were selling them direct cheap in September that came dead out of the box. But they replaced it promptly which is a good sign as a company. The ZT Extortion is a unique distortion that uses some of the same signal processing technology used in the amps it switches in as a second foot switch giving 2 very good sounds. As a bonus you can plug in an expression pedal to control the DSP tone. It sort of reminds me of the Systech Harmonic Energizer in a way tho' the ZT Extortion is more tame and predictable. They seem to be a good company that backs their equipment. They were pretty reasonable to deal with except for the multiple emails asking me to try various tests (that I had already done being an electronic tech and all).

Their customer support has been pretty good for me, too.

The non-Junior Lunchbox is on sale right now for $189 at a chain store that Exene Cervenka suggests you boycott. You might be able to get a non-Bain Capital-owned store to match the price.

It is so dang empty and hollow sounding here. Sort of a cool echoverb like being in a 50000bushel grain silo.
Nothing says lonely like 3 yr old abandoned blog sites. I need some pinktone Joe.
