I built the first project (distortion) and it worked out well, so I decided to move on to the second project (fuzz).

I got a great bassy, fuzzy tone when I breadboarded the circuit, but when I put it on perfboard, I ran into problems.

First of all, I had difficulty following the instructions so I tried to arrange the circuit myself based on the schematic. When I plug the pedal in the LED turns on and I get a very trebly clean sound (with the tone pot at 0) that fades out completely when I turn the tone knob all the way up. My gain control also doesn't seem to do anything no matter how it is set.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going wrong?

Your pictures are pretty hard to get any information from. Can you give us a verbal run-down of your signal chain from front to end in your circuit?
