I was thinking about buying one of these tele kits:

What do you think? Anyone tied any of these kits before?

I was also thinking about upgrading a few parts, like the bridge for example. Then again, seems the beauty of the kit is the price, and the beauty of the tele is the simplicity so, it might be best to just get the kit and keep the project cheap as possible.

Seems the kit uses a bridge where the strings connect to the bridge rather than go through the body, I was thinking it might be better to set it up with the strings going through the body.

Just put a Babicz bridge on my Tele and it is wonderful.$183.00 for new Squire Standard Tele ,bridge was $110. worth every penny. It fits 4 and 5 hole Fender Tele mounts and accepts strings through body. Had to drill the squire to mount it but was very easy.

I think the string through bridge is a worthy upgrade. But a bridge like this will work great - https://www.ebay.com/itm/WILKINSON-BRASS-SADDLES-VINTAGE-TELE-TELECASTER-BRIDGE-HEAVY-STEEL-CHROME-/140782589282?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item20c74bd562
It's what I used on my home built Tele and that whole guitar vibrates with every note.

I've seen mixed reviews about those GFS kits. Be prepared to have to do a bit of adjusting, or if things or too far off contant GFS and ask for a replacement.

The GFS stuff is 'ok', but you're going to have to do some adjustment and after upgrading pretty much all the components, you're going to be at about the price of a squier - which might be a better option. The Classic Vibe 50's teles are really excellent guitars for the money (~$300-350). I think you might be better off starting there and then mod'ing as necessary. Or, check out the warehouse clearence on GFS - for about $60-70, you can probably get a better body and neck and then just buy better hardware. Alternatively, the GFS Xaviere line is actually fairly decent for the $$ and costs about the same as buying one of their kits and putting it together yourself. I guess it just depends on whether your preference is to build or buy.
