I saw this instrument the other day and thought it was artful and inspiring. The author is obviously ranting but, I like the quote that inspired the guitars creation. The ideas of going against the industry trends of highly figured maple tops and thick glossy plastic finishes is something worth considering. What do you think, modern finishes sound better, worse or the same as bare wood or a minimal finish?

Always thought finish really doesn’t affect sound or that word that Guitarists use so randomly “Tone” hardly at all. My customized Strat is painted with rustoleum spray paint and has tung oil on the neck. You couldn’t pry it from my cold dead fingers at any price !

Gold is the color of heaven, are those pearly gates? The details look like an illuminated manuscript. Of course it’s pin-striping and the lines suggested the stylized flames of hell. Just like the devil to tempt the unwary with gold.

It’s got no switch! It always speaks with the same voice, or two voices? A single master tone, can you trust what this guitar has to say?

Look at the buckle rash. This guitar was slung low. I would not let my daughter date the owner.

The guitar has been chambered. Now we’re getting to the heart, is it hollow? Weight relieved and empty. It’s a light weight besides it’s bad boy appearance.

The real tell tale here is the fact that it’s been reliced. This is a sin against musicianship. All of the history and experience this instrument portrays is a sham.

All of that said, I personally think this guitar is pretty bad ass. Though I would never buy a “reliced” instrument. I’d feel like an ass, and worse knowing I’d paid more for it. I’m the same way with my jeans. I’m wearing them out myself.

I know it’s bad form to double post, but I thought this would be a good DGD post also, forgive me.

From my personal, and very unscientific, experience, I feel that the finish effects the sound unplugged. But when plugged in I’m not so sure. Seems going into an amp there are more variables, Amp, Pickups etc.

What can you say about the owner of this? Is that real or has been “reliced?” I think it’s real, just badly executed.

Obviously conflicted tele body Strat headstock. Didn’t this guy know the neck pockets don’t match? I’m agast that this person would put a trem on a tele not too mention its one of those locking ones. On closer inspection we see its an original khaler from the ’80s maybe this person is just a slave to fashion or gave into their inner shredder back when everyone was doing it? No sense of history, was this John 5’s early instrument?

The body has been modified with arm and belly relief. The player was soft and a weakling, could not handle the original tele shape, had to try and make the thing more comfortable.

This is the guitar of an obviously conflicted personality. There is so much wrong here. Look at the tuners they are not perpendicular to the headstock, and the tuner heads are different sizes. Take everything this person says with a grain of salt.

In the end though, the guitar is honest, maybe even well intentioned, though misguided. I don’t think they are trying to hide anything. The body seems to be very clearly marked up with ares that could use modification or improvement. Maybe they have even recognized their sins against the church of the Telecaster.
