"echotapper" out of the Netherlands has concocted a circuit based on the Spin FV-1 audio DSP chip. His sonic theme is "vintage guitar echo".

Dig the sound samples:

The schematic here shows the "motherboard" which provides power and input/output mixing for stereo input and output.

The DSP daughter card SKRM-C8-ETAP2 can be ordered from Octave Distribution and they are just under $30 each. There are other cards available with different sets of 8 presets available in each.

I think this is a great alternative to the one-trick-pony Belton reverb bricks!

I need to make a comment about the sound samples at the Octave site - I think most of the reverb patches have no dry signal, so all you hear is a distant sounding wet signal. Also, they have used one input sound sample for everything - which is great, for consistency, but e.g. for an auto-wah, just using rhythm strumming is not the best way to show what is possible with such an effect.

In order not to think excessively about recent events, I'm providing some distraction here.

Echo Units used by the Shadows

A little Hank Marvin for you

The best Shadows cover I've come across so far!

Or what the heck, that might be the best music video ever.

I don't get the cult of the Shadows, but all the same I'll go ahead and download the Magicstomp patches they've got posted at Echotapper. (Patch sharing is really an awesome thing. Truly a shame that Yamaha killed the Magicstomp.)

An independent international panel of media experts recently issued a report concluding that that yes, that is the greatest music video ever.
