My old trusty Marshall power amp recently breathed its last, and I'm wondering whether it's viable to cannibalise my older Carlsbro for its power stage?!!

I'm thinking (if possible) to re-size the combo cab into a head, and rip out the pramp side of things.

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to amps, and am I maybe being presumptuous thinking there will be a clear delineation between the pre and power stages, and is it a cogent idea to turn it into what will effectively be a rack system?

It's maybe doable but may be very difficult. What is the Marshall? I've always found it cheaper and easier to repair than mod stuff (I am a long time electronic tech). How about some more particulars about the amps?

The Marshall rack power amp was a solid state behemoth of some age, very loud, it just gave up the ghost after many faithful years, I took it to an electrician friend who's dabbled in amps, and he told me it wasn't salvageable, so I sent it to amp heaven.

The amp I'm contemplating mutilating is a Carlsbro stingray, 120W 2x12;
in the back, above preamp out, it has two jack sockets marked slave.

I've never needed to think about slave amps or their uses before, are they both outs, or will I be able to bypass the preamp? (like I said, I've only ever really 'plugged and played' before.

Slave amp outputs are usually the preamp outs or sometimes it is derived from the pwr amp output. You might be able to hack a pwr amp input by following the preamp output signal wiring and follow it back to the pwr amp in connection. However not all preamp/pwr amp input and output impedance adhere to standards values and may not play nicely with others.
