The metaphor is baseball, you're the catcher and you've signaled the pitcher to throw the knuckle ball and you're not quite sure where the pitch will end up going since the knuckle ball is by nature unpredictable.

I ask because I've been checking out the stream and recent playlists for an old Friday night fave, Left of the Dial, formerly on KUT, Austin, and now on KUTX: https://www.publicbroadcasting.net/kutx/guide.guidemain?action=searchPlaylist2&programID=46991&newSearch=true Generally a good, cool, weird mix of stuff. Vin Scelsa's Idiot's Delight probably conditioned me well when I was younger: https://www.wfuv.org/programs/idiotsdelight

I think of the two shows as knuckle balls for listening because the range is pretty broad and a bit random, but still pretty well and tastefully curated. With artist stations on any of the streaming services I can often find a lot of real dreck creeping in that I can't teach the engines to drop, and the range and breadth rarely is as good that way.

Any good places you listen or read for discoveries?

New music is something I just don't listen to for the most part. You have to beat me with a stick just to get me to turn on a radio.

Well, most of the stuff I pick up on is more "new to me." Having something piqued every so often by hearing a John Fahey track or some Nils Petter Molvaer is a good thing.
