I've been fiddling with guitars for a while and have mod'ed quite a few with tricky wiring schemes etc... often with a good degree of improvement in terms of flexibility, others though were too complex or cumbersome for the perceived sonic / musical benefits.

I have recently been playing with the PEAVEY T-60 tone pot + single coil to Humbucker selector which is good but I've yet to sort out how to make the single coil tone control more responsive... anyone managed this without crazy anti-log pots or some such?

Anyone out there had a Eureka moment or sage advice with re-wires??

Here's a scan of my crappy hand drawn re-wire diagram of an old WESTONE THUNDER1 that I did - many moons ago - trying to use easily available parts rather than tricky on-on-on toggle switches or multi-pole rotary switches. It enable each coil of the humbuckers to be selected individually and the pickups to be connected in series or parallel in and out of phase.

Joe...I just read your DIY article in the September issue of Premier Guitar. EXCELLENT article...good timing for me because I am building a NEW STRAT Partscaster.
But...I have a few questions about MOD # 2 - Nashville Strat: You mention ..."You sacrifice the sound of the middle pickup alone". Is that correct? If I turn the master volume down all the way (for the two pickup switch output going to the output jack)...shouln't I still hear the middle PU alone? The middle PU bypasses the switching circuit to go directly to the output jack...I thought. Does turning the switch circuit down all the way with the master volume... short-circuit (via ground) the entire output (switched out and iso middle PU? Sort of the same as some Les Paul, 2 PU, 4 pot control circuits...when turning one volume own all the way...cancels (short circuits) the entire system?
Anyway...if I have this correct...the final design provides:
Neck Alone (middle PU off)
Neck and Bridge (middle PU off)
Bridge alone (middle PU off)
Neck alone...with middle PU blended to taste
Neck and bridge...with middle PU blended to taste
Bridge alone...with middle PU blended to taste
Neck...middle...and bridge (ALL)
Middle PU alone
Do I have this correct, or am I missing something? Tone control for bridge PU was one of my goals. The David Gilmour, neck/bridge combo is nice too.
