I have a lipstick humbucker in my junk drawer that I want to press into use. I think it's from a 90s Danelectro Hodad, with slightly offset tubes and the mounting bracket with tabs under the coil and designed to be mounted through the rear of a hollow Masonite body.

I want to use it in a Strat copy. I could attack the bracket with a pliers to force the tabs up and out. I could hack my own replacement base if I get the case grounding right. I could hack a pre-made base to mount the tubes. (Dog-ear P-90 base would be about right size for the tubes, with mounting tabs out to the side.) Or I guess I could do a hack as two separate pickups, since that's what it is.

Anyone been here before? Tips, tricks, dire warnings?
