Was just reading the new june PG Joe and realized I had not posted anything about the ManticoreFX Super Klone I bought. 2 Klones one box pretty dern cool. The guy does immaculate work and has been researching everything there is to know about Klons. He said that matched against his Klon the left side is an exact match 100% to his ear at least. Here is where he was selling them on Reverb has better pics and more info so take a peek https://reverb.com/item/475758-manticore-super-klone-double-klon-centaur-clone-026 I bought #27 had some issues with the etching being less then perfect ImageImageImage

It looks like the guy did a very nice construction job. The leads seem long but that makes it easier to take apart and mod or repair, I always wonder about how much coupling the long leads cause. It's not necessarily a bad thing as it can effect tone positively as well as negatively. For instance I always found that the leads in old Marshalls and Fenders you could reduce hum by repostiong the longer wires that carried audio as well as power. I eventually found that moving voltage and current carrying leads away from signal leads reduced noise and hum but that keeping thise audio wires closer to each other gave a cooler sound. In fact I think some of the iold Fender amps got their shimmery tone that way. I think a lot of boutique guys miss this little bit of tweakery leaving the amps lacking a little something that the old Fenders did. All in all it looks like you got a good deal the series arrangement gives you a great way to go but personally I would like to see them also to be in parallel which can be subtle but also very cool sounding. I bought one of the JHS modified EHX Soul Food with the meat pot and diode switch, it sounds great and with the extra stuff has a lot of variations. It's been 10 years or so than the last time I had one to repair and test (zapped charge pump from using the wrong AC adapter) so while I can say it is close to the ones I've repaired its to long to remember in detail. I always thougth they were a gas to play but they were too damn expensive, I've had 2 I bought broken and fixed but I just couldn't justify keeping them when I had to keep my daughters car running when she was in college (10 years or so ago) I sold one to a guy that just had to have it for $600 plus used snowtires for the kids car (nice guy with no wife to stop him and that was his first offer BTW). The other one bought her college graduation gift. I will say that the modded Soul Food gets a lot of use today even though I have never been a big OD pedal guy, fuzzes are more my cup o' tea. But for 2 Klons in a box it seems like a helluva deal.

One other thing I really liked the fact he used IC sockets. It makes it easier to change IC's and protects the pc traces from resoldering. But more importantly it protects the ICs from heat if they are soldered in. Overheating ICs while soldering can kill and in some cases change the ICs characteristics. Plus you can even swap with other ICs for different tonal properties.

Oinkus, does stacking two add something that one alone won't give you? Or one stacked with a different dirt or overdrive!

Yes it does , but I like the left side much more then the right side. I stack it with the Kalamazoo and that is pretty great but it requires some adjustments to all the settings.Have to be careful with the gain because it can get very noisy when you start stacking on a dirty channel with multiple ODs.
